A big step towards making vision care more accessible

WIVI Vision uses artificial intelligence and big data, in combination with 3D video game-based training, with the aim of facilitating the work of specialists and improving patient experience.

One of the major advantages that our technology brings is that we manage to reduce the visual assessment time from one hour to 15 minutes, and the training duration goes from six months to a month and a half in mild cases, and from a year to three months in severe cases. And all at a reasonable price.

In addition, WIVI is a valuable clinical aid for specialists because it provides them with objective data to help them make better decisions regarding patients.

We will be part of the expansion of the acceleration program in which we will be accompanied by UNICEF and ISDI in identifying and harnessing the different business needs. A program that rewards projects for finding innovative solutions to childhood issues in Spain and around the world.

Visual assessment and training with clinical data and 3D video games

There are visual problems that cannot be solved with glasses and require visual training to correct them. WIVI focuses on these visual dysfunctions.

WIVI Vision is a tool that allows analyzing if the user presents visual dysfunctions and helps to correct them in a few months through personalized training in the form of 3D video games.

As Eva García Ramos points out in the interview, “With WIVI Vision, our goal was, on the one hand, to reduce the evaluation time: it usually takes 60 minutes, and with our tool, we do it in 12. We also aim to shorten the training time, which typically lasts between 6-12 months, and we achieve it in just 3.”

WIVI not only enhances the user experience, but also improves the experience of specialists.

For specialists, it works as if it were a blood test. Once the game is over, it obtains a series of parameters that indicate if something is not going well and, depending on these results, it establishes one training session or another.

The clinic study, carried out by WIVI Vision and the Paediatrics Department of the Terrassa Health Consortium on 200 children, highlights that: “More than half of the apparently healthy children, after having passed a conventional visual assessment, presented visual dysfunctions when they passed a second specific pediatric visual screening and an optometric visual screening carried out with WIVI Vision”.

Abel Martínez, head of pediatrics at CTS, explains: “We compared those we would have sent to the specialist with the traditional method and those we sent with WIVI. The WIVI protocol detected many alterations that had been previously overlooked.

As Juan Carlos Ondategui, co-founder of Wivi and professor of Optics and Optometry at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, points out in the article the British public health system has become interested in pediatric vision screening because they understand that the detection of certain dysfunctions at an early age facilitates their treatment and cure and means ‘a reduction in healthcare costs for the treatment of these cases in children and young people’.
